The Importance of Representation

Representation in the hair industry doesn’t start on a billboard; it starts behind the chair. When stylists from diverse backgrounds are part of a salon, they bring not just talent but real lived experience and cultural understanding. This creates a richer, more inclusive environment—one where you feel seen, understood, and completely at ease.

There’s something special about sitting in a chair and knowing your stylist gets your hair because they’ve lived it too. It’s a comforting feeling that makes all the difference!

Education Is the Game Changer

Thankfully, more hair academies are updating their training to include all hair types, from straight to coily, fine to dense. This shift is essential. It ensures every stylist can confidently care for every client—no one left out, no guesswork, just skill and understanding.

Inclusive education isn’t just good for the industry; it’s better for you, the client. You deserve a stylist who knows how to handle your unique hair type with expertise!

Styling with Culture and Care

It’s not just about haircuts or treatments; it’s about creating a space where your hair is truly understood. That means listening, learning, and tailoring every service to you. Because even two people with the same hair type might have totally different needs, histories, or styling habits.

When culture, technique, and empathy meet, you get something much more meaningful than a salon appointment. You get connection. You get a stylist who understands your journey and can help you express it through your hair!

A Salon Experience That Sees You

Diversity in hair is a gift. It fuels creativity, sparks innovation, and builds community. When a salon reflects that diversity—from the services offered to the team behind the chair—it becomes a space where everyone can shine.

Because at the end of the day, hair isn’t just about how you look. It’s about how you feel. And feeling good about your hair can transform your entire day!

Hello, my lovelies

It’s me, Noelle Stewart, and today I wanted to pause for a moment and reflect on a journey that has shaped not just my career, but my life.

For over 25 years, hairdressing has been my passion, my purpose and my constant. It has brought me joy, laughter, growth and most importantly, the most incredible people. This industry has given me far more than a job. It has given me a community, friendships, and a sense of fulfilment I’m deeply grateful for.

Where it all began

My journey started in an Afro salon called Arlettes in Harlesden, where I worked as a junior and quickly found my feet. It was there that my love for hair truly began to grow. I became fascinated not just by styling, but by how powerful hair can be in the way someone feels about themselves.

After qualifying with my NVQ Level 1 and 2 in Hairdressing from Alan D Hairdressing School, I knew I wanted to challenge myself further. I had my heart set on Toni & Guy, drawn to the brand's precision, creativity and high standards.

Learning, growing and taking chances

I secured a role at Toni & Guy Brent Cross, completed my training, and quickly progressed. I moved from Stylist to Style Director / Manager, learning so much along the way about leadership, discipline and believing in my own ability.

From there, I took a leap of faith to help a dear friend open her very own salon, Angels in Burnt Oak. It was exciting, intense, and incredibly rewarding. I will always be thankful to Janet Joshua for trusting me and giving me such a special experience.

My journey continued between Toni & Guy St Albans and Watford, with each salon playing a role in shaping the hairdresser and person I was becoming.

Saying yes to the unknown

I was later headhunted by HOB Salons and offered an Assistant Manager position in Northwood. I had never worked for another company before, but I love a challenge and felt ready to step into something new.

Six months later, I was offered a role that was completely outside my comfort zone. I was asked to manage HOB MAN at Brent Cross, a male grooming salon. At the time, I wasn’t confident with clippers, didn’t really understand skin fades and had never managed a salon full of men. But for some reason, they believed I was right for it.

It turned out to be one of the most rewarding, motivating, and enjoyable experiences of my career. I built a strong, supportive team filled with laughter, hard work, and genuine care for one another. I’ll always be proud of what we created together.

Finding balance and trusting myself

Once the team was established and I felt I had reached a personal turning point, I knew I needed a better balance in my life. I transferred to HOB Stanmore, where I spent seven years growing both professionally and personally.

After navigating some personal challenges and coming out stronger, I finally felt ready to take a leap that had been quietly calling me for a long time.

Today, I’m proud to be running my own freelance business at THE LHB Salon, and it truly feels like coming home to myself.

Why I love what I do

Hairdressing has never just been about hair for me.

It’s about trust, connection, and energy. It’s about making someone feel confident, happy and seen. There’s something incredibly special about watching a client look in the mirror and walk away feeling lighter and more themselves.

When your hair feels good, it really does change how you carry yourself.

Over the years, I’ve shared so many moments with my clients. We’ve laughed, cried, supported each other and celebrated life together. Many of you have become genuine friends, and I never take that for granted.

A space filled with love

One of the things I value most is the diversity of my clients. Different ages, cultures, backgrounds, and stories, all coming together in one space. Hair is universal, and the love and trust shared in the salon goes far beyond styling.

Thank you for trusting me with something so personal. Thank you for supporting my journey and allowing me to grow into the hairdresser I am today.

A new chapter

It’s been just over a month since I stepped fully into my freelance journey, and I can honestly say it has been a blessing in ways I never expected.

Whether you’ve been with me from the very beginning or you’re someone I’ve yet to meet, thank you. Supporting my business means more to me than I can ever put into words.

Here’s to many more years of laughter, connection, friendship, and beautiful hair.

With so much love,

Noelle Stewart x

If you haven’t incorporated a leave-in mask into your haircare routine, you’re missing out! Leave-in masks are not just a staple for those with curly, frizzy, or dry hair; they can benefit all hair types. These nourishing treatments make your tresses shinier, smoother, and more manageable. Your hair goes through a lot daily, leading to damage that accumulates over time. If you’ve wished for silky-soft, smooth hair that’s healthy from the inside out, read on to discover the benefits of leave-in conditioner for every hair type.

What is a Leave-In Mask?

A leave-in mask is formulated to add moisture to the hair without weighing it down. Since it doesn’t need to be rinsed out, it nourishes, strengthens, and protects the hair as you go about your daily routine, leaving it more manageable and easier to style. Beyond this, leave-in conditioner infuses the hair with moisture to improve elasticity and prevent breakage during detangling and styling, while also reducing frizz and adding shine. Over time, a leave-in conditioner will promote overall hair health and help to repair existing damage. Let’s explore the benefits of leave-in conditioner in detail.

Moisturises Dry Hair

Leave-in conditioner adds moisture to dry hair and hydrates the hair shaft. It contains ingredients like humectants, which draw moisture into the hair, and emollients to smooth and soften it. These ingredients work together to deeply moisturize the hair, making it less brittle and more pliable. This added moisture promotes elasticity, making dry hair less prone to breakage and split ends. Leave-in conditioners penetrate the hair shaft, hydrating from the inside out, leaving damaged hair healthier and stronger over time.

Makes Detangling Easier

Leave-in conditioner benefits all hair types by adding slip, which makes detangling easier. Slip refers to the reduction of friction between hair strands, allowing a comb or brush to glide through knots and tangles without causing breakage. The lubricating ingredients in leave-in conditioners make hair more manageable and reduce the number of knots and tangles that occur throughout the day. They can be used on wet or dry hair, making them incredibly convenient for detangling before styling or in between washes.

Protects Against Environmental Damage

Leave-in conditioner helps protect the hair against environmental damage in several ways. It strengthens the hair's cuticle—a protective barrier against moisture loss caused by environmental stressors. Natural oils in leave-in conditioners coat the hair, creating a barrier against harsh temperatures, wind, and UV rays. The antioxidants in these conditioners help neutralize damage from sun exposure. Moreover, by providing hydration and vital nutrients, leave-in conditioners can increase hair strength and resilience, minimizing potential environmental damage.

Makes Styling Easier

Leave-in conditioner smooths the hair shaft and prevents tangles, making hair easier to style and improving manageability. Natural oils reduce friction between hair strands, making it easier to brush and comb the hair. By adding moisture, leave-in conditioners make hair more pliable, flexible, and less likely to snap or break, thus taming flyaways and improving overall manageability during styling.

Protects Against Heat Damage

While leave-in conditioner isn’t a heat protectant on its own, it aids in protecting hair against heat damage by adding moisture. Properly moisturized hair is more flexible, pliable, and elastic, making it less susceptible to damage during heat styling. However, it’s essential to note that while leave-in conditioners provide benefits, they should not replace your heat protectant. To maximize benefits, apply a leave-in conditioner, followed by a heat protectant, before using a blow dryer or hot tools.

Combats Frizz

Leave-in conditioner is ideal for combating frizz and maintaining a smooth, shiny appearance. It coats the hair shaft with lightweight, moisture-rich conditioning agents that seal in moisture and smooth cuticles. This conditioning prevents dryness and brittleness, significantly reducing frizz and enhancing manageability. When combined with nourishing ingredients like amino acids, vitamins and minerals, leave-in conditioners help strengthen hair, reduce frizz, and promote healthy, shiny locks.

Restores Bounce to Naturally Curly Hair

For those with naturally curly or coiled hair, leave-in conditioner is a game-changer. It restores bounce and adds definition by rehydrating the hair and reinforcing weak points in the hair shaft with humectants that attract and retain moisture, plus emollients that smooth and soften the hair. This makes curly hair less brittle and more pliable, helping to define those beautiful natural curls.

Nourishes Fine Hair Without Weighing it Down

Individuals with fine hair will find leave-in conditioners especially beneficial. These products provide hydration, detangling, and nourishment without weighing hair down. Many leave-in conditioners are formulated with lightweight ingredients that help fine hair become less brittle and more pliable, reducing tangles, frizz, and breakage.
